MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST
Rotary valve inspection points before restart
Before opening or reaching into a rotary valve, isolate electrical, pneumatic and process energy, apply the site lockout procedure and wait until all moving parts have stopped. Maintenance must be carried out by qualified personnel using the valve manual and the plant safety procedure.
Inspection frequency depends on the material, duty cycle, temperature, pressure differential and observed wear. Begin with shorter checks after commissioning, record what changes, then set the interval from operating evidence and the equipment manufacturer's instructions.
Routine inspection checklist
- Look for visible damage, product buildup and leakage at the shaft seals, end covers and flanges.
- Listen for new vibration, scraping or abnormal drive noise; investigate the cause before continued operation.
- Check accessible fasteners, guards and flange connections, using the specified torque and restart procedure.
- Inspect the gearmotor, bearings, chain or coupling according to the component manufacturer's instructions.
- Record rotor-tip and end clearances using the approved measurement method so wear can be compared with the commissioning baseline.
- Track leakage, throughput and material condition together; a change in one signal may explain another.
Do not use generic service intervals
Lubricant type, quantity, clearance limits and replacement criteria vary by valve design and process. Use the serial-specific manual or request confirmation before changing settings or parts.

How often should a rotary valve be inspected?
There is no safe universal interval. Base it on material abrasiveness, duty cycle, temperature, pressure differential, leakage and wear trends, plus the valve and drive manufacturers' instructions. Use shorter checks after commissioning until a reliable baseline is established.
What should be checked before the valve is restarted?
Confirm guards and safety devices are in place, fasteners and flanges are secure, tools and foreign material are removed, the drive is ready, and the site lockout procedure has been formally released by authorized personnel.
